(HAPPY) BIRTHDAY TOM CRUISE!

July 3rd, 2012 | Posted by Johnny Arts in Fashion | Film & TV | Lifestyle | Yipiii - (0 Comments)

Tom Cruise, Hollywood’s eternal child must be going through quite a tough day today: he’s turning 50, and his wife, Katie Holmes has filed for divorce.

This is Cruise’s third divorce after Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman. Dubbed by the media as TomKat, Cruise and Holmes married at the Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano in Italy in 2005, under a strict Scientology cerimony. And it is exactly this controversial religion that has been blamed for Cruise’s third failed marriage.

The relationship with Holmes, who is  16 years his junior has always been subject of debate, from Cruise declaring his love to her on the Oprah Winfrey Show (which became the pop culture moment of 2005) to the first photographs with their child Suri.

It is Holmes’ worries about the Church of Scientology, and the way it wished to bring up Suri that are the official reason for the filing, although it has been long been speculated that Holmes was emprisoned by the relationship.  It seems Cruise’s intentions were to send Suri to Sea Org, an intensive Scientology training camp where children as young as five are taught the principles of Scientology without their parents, in what has been described as a military manner.

Conspiracy theories are starting to pop up left and right, with people discovering Tom Cruise has not been dating women over 33, and that each of his wives was born 11 years after the first one (class of ’89, watch out, you’re next!)

What do you think has happened? Did Katie simply want to start wearing heels again?

THREE YEARS WITHOUT THE KING OF POP

June 25th, 2012 | Posted by Johnny Arts in Film & TV | Lifestyle | Yipiii - (0 Comments)

There are moments in your life when you hear of a tragedy, and that moment remains impressed in your mind forever. Everyone who was alive on September 11th 2001 will remember exactly what they were doing when they heard the tragic news, just as everyone will remember what they were doing when the king of pop, His Majesty Michael Jackson, passed away.

The tortured child star, rose to fame in the 1970s with his family band, The Jackson 5, is widely recognised as the most successful entertainer of all time. His career spanned over four decades, almost all of his songs were massive, worldwide hits, he owned the rights to The Beatles songs, and married another King’s (Elvis’) daughter. He was a living legend, and “it doesn’t matter if black or white”.

There sure was a lot of commotion upon the time of his death, and the void he left in our hearts and ears is surely one that cannot be so easily filled.

So let’s remember the Original Moonwalker, the man with a heart of gold and celebrate him on Yipiii!

TARANTINO IS BACK AND HE’S UNCHAINED!

June 7th, 2012 | Posted by Ferdando Redondo in Film & TV | Yipiii - (0 Comments)

Once upon a time, in America’s Deep South, there was a German dentist turned bounty hunter who helped free a slave in return for his help in catching a murderous brotherly duo. In turn, he promised the newly freed slave to help him find his wife, trapped in the clutches of an evil Mississippi plantation owner – and seek an all out, bloody, explosive, sleek and seductive revenge to a vintage soundtrack. Sounds like an interesting yarn, right?

Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio face off in Tarantino's new flick 'Django Unchained'. Image source: WhatCulture.com

What we didn’t mention is that the aforementioned story stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz,  and it’s directed by Quentin Tarintino too.

Yep, it’s been a while since Tarintino’s last outing with Inglorious Basterds, and it seems that QT has chopped, shot and scored another classic with his new western revenge thriller/homage to spaghetti westerns, ‘Django Unchained’.

The trailer hit the web today and as ever, film buffs the world over were drooling over their keyboards whilst listening to the prospect of sharp Tarintino dialogue and vintage soundtrack – they weren’t disappointed either.

The trailer looks terrific and it seems good old Quentin is back on form – with such a starry cast for company and a script as quick witted as any of the words uttered in Reservoir Dogs, this might just be a return to glory for one of the best cult directors around. You can find out for your own when the film is released on these shores on December 25th.

Until then, don’t forget that you can win all sorts of Tarintino related goodies over on Yipiii for just £1.

“LOVE” REIGNS SUPREME IN CANNES

May 28th, 2012 | Posted by Johnny Arts in Film & TV | Lifestyle | Yipiii - (0 Comments)

The world’s most glamorous and important film festival, Cannes, ended yesterday awarded its most prestiogious prize, the “Palme D’Or” to Michael Haneke’s film “L’amour” or “Love” for those of you less francophone!

In these last ten days, the famous “Croisette” in Cannes saw thousands of Stars and Starlettes parade on the red carpet towards the auditorium. Some were impeccably dressed, some must not have owned a mirror, while some others’ taste is open for debate!

But, back to what really mattered at Cannes, the films themselves. The Jury, let by Italian film-maker Nanni Moretti, prized the love story of two elderly citizens told in French by Michael Haneke this year’s “Palme D’Or”. Other prize winners were British director Ken Loach, with his “The Angel’s Share” won the jury prize, while Matteo Garrone (famous for his adaptation of shocking mafia tales in Gomorrah) won the Grand Prix with his film “Reality”.

The three films that were most anticipated: Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom”, Sam Mendes’ “On The Road” and Sacha Baron-Cohen’s “The Dictator” may not have won prizes, but their stars certainly made the headlines thanks to their charisma, buffoonery and ultimately, talent. Bill Murray joked with the paparazzi, Kirsten Stewart enchanted the red carpet and Sacha Baron-Cohen blocked half of Cannes with a camel and then staged a (fake) murder!

All we have to say here at Yipiii is you’re all winners if you’re using winmarkets! Try the revolutionary concept on the following prizes and be a star!
